According to the Daily Mail, the Simple Life star favours the ‘Ionithermie Cheek Lift’ treatment to help reduce her cellulite and keep her rear firm. If you think of your thighs or bottom when you are peeling your orange, you are not alone. Some 95 per cent of women say that they have some degree of cellulite - even model-thin women.
A decade ago, the medical world denied the existence of cellulite, but the majority of women worldwide knew otherwise. Cellulite is now widely agreed to be an accumulation of fat, fluid and toxins trapped into a hardened network of elastin and collagen fibres in the deeper levels of your skin.
Try squeezing some of the skin on your upper thigh and if it looks lumpy, you have it. The skin might also look whiter and feel colder than the rest of the body.
It is usually found on the thighs and bottom, but it can appear on calves, tummies and upper arms.
The fact that thin women can get cellulite points to the existence of contributory factors other than poor diet, stress and lack of exercise. These are accepted to be hereditary factors and hormones, which both seem to play a role in whether or not you have cellulite. The female hormone link is why cellulite only rarely appears in males.
However, poor diet and lack of exercise are the major players when it comes to increasing the dimples.
For women wanting to improve their cellulite, there are positive dietary and lifestyle changes that you can make.
Try boosting the circulation to the area by using a body brush or a massage glove. In the shower, massage the area every day for at least five minutes.Increase cardiovascular and toning exercise to at least three weekly sessions. Swimming is known to be beneficial to reducing cellulite, as is walking and stretching exercises such as pilates and yoga.Watch your diet, avoiding sugary snacks and eating more fresh fruit and raw vegetables. Aim for a healthy balance between low-GI carbohydrates and lean protein with every meal.Drink lots of water to cleanse your system and flush the toxins from your body’s cells.Avoid coffee and switch to herbal teas. Vitamin C is recommended by many cellulite researchers, so fruit juices are a much better choice than fizzy drinks. Fruit juices are high in sugar, though, so only have one or two glasses a day.
If you enjoy aromatherapy, blend a couple of drops of your favourite essential oils into a carrier oil, such as almond, and gently massage this into the problem areas on a daily basis.
It will take about four to six weeks before you see any results from these dietary and lifestyle changes, so don’t expect to see improvements on the first day and don’t expect to see 100 per cent of the cellulite disappear.
The fact is that there are no quick fixes beyond cosmetic surgery. If you find yourself being seduced by lotions and potions claiming to reduce cellulite, err on the side of caution. These expensive creams may help to improve the surface appearance of the skin, but unless you combine them with dietary and lifestyle changes you will only see superficial results.
